I love night creams so I thought I’d review the luxury Erno Laszlo Firmarine night cream and see if I can find out why it is such a popular luxury night cream with intense moisturising and gentle anti ageing qualities. I want to write about the ingredients in this formula that I love the most, including Shea butter and honey.
Erno Laszlo was a Hungarian / American dermatologist who founded the Erno Laszlo institute and luxury cosmetics brand. He was a pioneer for the modern cosmetics industry and the brands Firmarine night cream is one of the brands most popular creams. I love the soft delicate scent and the blue moisturising cream formula that isn’t sticky but feels luscious and thick.

Who will enjoy using this Erno Laszlo night cream
The Firmarine night cream aims to sooth and moisturise dry, dehydrated, ageing and acne prone skin. If you enjoy a thick night cream that leaves your skin deeply moisturised when you wake up in the morning and doesn’t leave you with an oily skin tone then this is a luscious thick and smooth formula.
If you have more mature skin then the Firmarine night cream is a good choice, without having to resort to using retinol skin care products or more intensive anti ageing products. Using a night cream that has deep moisturising qualities helps protect your skin from drying out and ageing more quickly. You’ll also notice your skin feels much softer when you wake up in the morning.
Erno Laszlo have mixed in spirulina Maxima into this formula. This algea extract is known to help encourage collagen growth which can help your skin stay more elasticated and look younger. Application is easy as the formula spread evenly and doesn’t have any nasty ingredients that block your pores, however the blue colour is artificial and not natural.
You only need to apply a small amount of this formula and it will go a long way when applying onto your skin. Be sure to place a bath bomb in the bath and have a soothing warm soak in the bath first so you are ready for a sound nights sleep.
What ingredients are in the Firmarine night cream
The Firmarine night cream uses a blend of Spirulina Maxima which is an algae extract that can help make your skin look more youthful. If your skin is dry or oily then Spironlina Maxima can also help to balance the moisture and stop your skin from becoming too dry or oily. The ingredients focus more on dry skin, but the moisturising blend of ingredients protects your skin and doesn’t make it more oily.
Honey is also included in this formula. Honey is known to soften your skin and just the idea of honey in a product makes me feel good. Some honey extracts are high in anti oxidants and can nourish fine lines and wrinkles. I personally love manuka honey because it has even greater anti bacterial qualities then regular honey, but regular honey can still help balance out bacteria in your skin that can cause blemishes.
Shea butter is a luscious and nourishing ingredient that I love to see in my bath and skin care products. Not only does shea butter have a delicate and succulent scent but it is also high in fatty acid and vitamins that soften your skin. Shea butter has anti-inflammatory qualities and I always feel comforted and know my skin is being soothed when I apply Shea butter formulas to my face and with my luxury neck creams.
Macadamia oil is a wonderful nutritious nut oil that blends well with Shea butter because it also has amazing moisturising properties. Many women swear by macademia oil products and I think it’s fair to say it does help create that desirable dewy layer of glowing healthy skin. Some say it can also help reduce wrinkles and lines, if you are fighting the signs of ageing, I can’t vouch for this but Macademia oil blended with, Shea butter, honey and Spirolina Maxima all have protective qualities that i’m sure are going to offer your skin plenty of those good vitamins and nutritious oils that your skin loves to soak up.
Alternative choice – Erno Laszlo Phelityl Night cream review

If you are looking for a lighter formula night cream then the Phelityl night cream is much lighter. The formula includes sweet birch extract which is an astringent, meaning it helps to soften while also blending and tightening your skin. Sweet birch extract is one of the ingredients that can help smoothen your skin and create an appearance of reduced lines.
Clove oil always stands out to me as a home remedy for toothache. clove oil has some great antibacterial qualities that help to soak up oil and reduce bacteria levels in your skin. Bacteria leads to blemishes, acne and excess oils or dryness.
If you have dry skin the glycerin in this formula is highly moisturising and it’s protective qualities of being a natural humectant can help restore moisture in your skin by bringing moisture from deep in your skins cells up to the surface to protect your more delicate outer layer of skin which benefits from a protective moisturising layer of goodness.
The main reason I would choose the phelityl cream is if you experience redness, dry patches, eczema, oiliness and premature ageing of your skin. Sometimes these are signs that the PH levels of your skin are unbalanced and the ingredients in this cream work to balance your skins PH levels which help reduce the problems mentioned above and restore your skin natural barrier to the outside world. The scent is lovely and if you have sensitive skin this formula is quite gentle, nourishing and soothing.
Erno Laszlo firmarine Night Cream Dupe
Maybe you’ve already tried this night cream, or you want to compare some alternative options. I’m going to show you a few luxury night creams that are similar to the this Laszlo night cream. If you have heard of Strivectin you might also want to check out their more intense range of anti ageing products.
Darphin Predermine Densifying Anti-Wrinkle Cream

This deliciously silky and smooth formula from Darphin is a luxury anti-wrinkle cream alternative. Darphin combine a lot of ingredients in this formula, but most of them are gentle on your skin and they don’t include the intense retinol ingredient. I’ve chosen this as a good alternative choice dupe because it offers a different blend of ingredients and a slightly lighter formula.
Darphin use peptides in this formula. Peptides stimulate skin cells and try to give them a little boost to increase collagen production. Collagen can help create firmer and tighter skin that brings about a younger appearance. Lines and wrinkles will appear reduced and your skin will feel fresh and moisturised.
Chantecaille Bio Lifting Cream

Chantecaille have been at the forefront of the beauty industry for many years. I have chosen the brands bio lifting cream as a Erno Laszlo dupe because it is a facial cream that target the signs of ageing and works to make your skin appear more lifted. The bio lifting cream use a range of alternative ingredients when compared with the Fermaine cream and the price is much higher because of the plant stem cell technologies used in the formula.
This dupe from Chantecaille has tripeptides and imperata cylindrica extract which is an infusion that works to keep all that soothing moisture in your skin.
Final thoughts – Erno Laszlo night cream review summary
I have to admit that I have become a little bit addicted to using night creams. Bed time is my favourite time of day. I love to remove my make-up, wind down in a hot bath or shower and then soak my feet in a foot massage machine while wearing a face mask. I then apply whichever night cream I’m feeling passionate about wearing and I’m ready to let all the moisture and goodness soak into my skin and work hand in hand with me to restore my skins natural looking glow.
I help the Firmarine night cream to work by making sure I’m hydrated before I sleep and that I massage my skin gently and carefully to try and relax all my facial muscles. When it’s time to turn out the lights, or blow out my essential oil candle I make sure to get a good 8 or 9 hours sleep to give my skin plenty of time to work alongside this Erno Laszlo night cream.
Erno Laszlo created this formula that combines some luscious ingredients. Shea butter is my favourite because I’ve used it in lots of body care products and so many times to wash my body. Shea butter products always have that buttery scent that is so tasty. Even the name of the ingredients sounds like the words sensual and yummy blended together.
Honey is in the formula too and all that waxy goodness the bees create for us has a lot of benefits for skincare too. Honey has antibacterial qualities that are great for soothing sensitive skin. The consistency of honey doesn’t moisturise in the way that Shea butter and Macademia oil do but it more than makes up for this with it’s skin healing qualities.
