One Man created these two Revolutionary Skincare Brands. Both Obagi Medical Products and Zo Skin Health Inc have one very important man in common, world-renowned dermatologist Dr Zein Obagi. It all started in 1988, when Dr Obagi founded a company called Worldwide Production Distribution. Later this company became the core of Obagi, focusing on medical skincare products.
To this day Dr Obagi’s Nu-Derm System is still one of the most popular products on the Obagi page, despite the fact that he created it in the 1980s. This high quality facial moisturiser is stated by the brand as being clinically proven to help your skin retain moisture for more than 8 hours. Obagi are renowned for their medical grade ratings across a range of skincare products but they do offer a number of enticing and succulent sounding ingredients you’ll most likely already be familiar with in your daily skin care routine.
Shea butter, mango butter and avocado also help to stop your skin drying out. I don’t know a lot about the science but when I hear these three ingredients mentioned in any product I can already feel their ravishing nature and smell their scent, recalling relaxing soaks and my favourite bath fizz.
This formula has a light gold tint and glides evenly onto your skin and absorbs well without clogging pores or creating an oily layer over your face. The formula is hypoallergenic and the formula is easy to apply because it isn’t too rich or thick.
Many users suggest keeping the Obagi hydrate facial moisturiser in the fridge for best results and longevity. This is a popular moisturiser that you’ll enjoy applying if you like a velvety long lasting moisturisers that isn’t oily and interacts well with a wide range of skin types.

I recently reviewed Roc’s retinol eye creams and have noticed the popularity of retinol in face care products growing a lot in recent years. The Obagi medical 360 retinol cream comes in a no frills tube but contains a strong retinol formula that can help reduce skin pigmentation, smooth your skins appearance and does this at a less intense rate than medically prescribed retinol products.
If you want to refine the appearance of your skin, by altering the texture and filling in those fine lines and wrinkles, this cream works well. You should always gently ease yourself into the use of any retinol product and use a very small amount until you are sure your skin type can handle it’s intensity.

ZO Skin Health Growth Factor Serum review

Zo Skin health offer this lightweight gel serum that claims to strengthen your skin while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The skin health growth factor serum definitely targets skin that has begun to develop signs of ageing and when I talk about anti-ageing products I always recommend my favourite products from Strivectin.
This growth serum is quite expensive, putting it firmly in the luxury beauty price range. Zo Skin health have a good reputation for their use of medical research and this serum has an interesting line up of ingredients. Fermented red ginseng extract and buddleja stem cells are two of the most unique I noticed in the ingredients list.
I can’t say this serum is the most groundbreaking product, but a lot of you have asked about it and I’d say it’s worth taking a look at but there are much more proven anti-ageing brands offering effective luxury anti-ageing skin care products.
Is Obagi the same as Zo?
Obagi is not the same as Zo. A Doctor called Dr Obagi was involved in the creation and development of both brands products. Obagi has used his medical experience with anti-ageing ingredients and products and brought this experience into both of these skin care brands products. Obagi focus much more on medically proven, medical grade products, while Zo focus on wider use through a more everyday range of skin care products.
Final comparison of Obagi vs Zo
At the end of the day, you have two fantastic brands pioneered by the same brilliant mind with the same goals and drives. Both brands strive for diversity and inclusion and focus on science. Their marketing might not be flashy or colourful.
Their products might not be Instagram worthy, but that’s not what the goal is here. Healthy skin is not a trend and should not be treated like one. Additionally, both brands offer every day skincare options from moisturisers to creams, as well as longer-term treatments and consultations.
Our skin is the largest organ on our body, and we should turn to brands like Obagi and Zo to understand how to care for it better, because we are not the experts, they are. If I had to choose one of the two brands, I prefer Obagi because of their medical range of products that are widely used and proven, but mostly because I really love the Obagi Medical Hydrate facial moisturiser.
