Tired of Zara & HM? There are few Australian designer brands you should know
Before I start, I have to say that, I LOVE Zara and H&M. They may not be very good quality or the most creative design, but they allow me to have the trendiest piece without financial pressure.
Besides this, the fast change of stock keeps me going back in the store every two weeks.
However, there is just one problem with the famous fast fashion brand: it is too easy to bump into someone on the street who is wearing the same outfit as you.
Do you remember the news that six wedding guests turned up to a wedding wearing the same dress? and they weren’t even bridesmaids!
I normally wouldn’t mind it if I’m looking better in the outfit… just kidding, it bothers me somehow if I know one of my friends has the same dress as me and we are going to a party together, I will never choose that particular dress as my party dress for that event.
In this article, I am going to introduce you to a few Australian designer brands that are a little bit more expensive than a fast fashion brand (still affordable) but have great design and good creative qualities.
C/MEO COLLECTIVE is like the dark horse of the fashion industry.
They are a relatively new brand who were founded in 2010, then became popular among celebrities and fashion bloggers within no time.
If you go to their Instagram, first impressions with the bright pink tone, and effortlessly chic style makes it hard to not be drawn in.
The experimental design is the secret weapon of C/MEO, as well as the inspired use of directional prints, premium fabrics and bold silhouettes.
Colour and silhouettes are my focus points when I’m shopping for clothes
Imagine this, if a person is walking towards you from a faraway place, the first thing that pops into your eyes is the colour of his or her clothing. Even before you can see the details clearly, silhouettes are the second thing that jumps out at you. Besides eye-catching function, bold silhouettes can easily show your great fashion taste.
The reason why C/MEO is becoming an international brand in such a short time is not only for the reasons I talked about above but also because of their clever capsule collection.
Each year C/MEO has a central theme to settle the fundamental collection tone (prints, shapes and fabric), and several capsule collections to fulfil each niche which allows people wearing different styles to find their perfect outfit.
They also have different collections with different styles, that are applied in the same tone, so it won’t look like the brand lost its identity and it won’t look messy if you want to mix different collections’ clothes together.
There is a little princess in every girl’s heart, and mine keeps screaming “ZIMMERMANN! ZIMMERMANN!!”. ZIMMERMANN was named by its founding Sisters Nicky and Simone ZIMMERMANN who founded this brand in Sydney in 1991.
This iconic Australian brand has stayed true to its original vision: sophisticated femininity, a passion for detail and a love of colour and print. One glance and you know that a dress or bikini is ZIMMERMANN.
Unlike C/MEO’s bold silhouettes, ZIMMERMANN likes to use light and soft material like lace and chiffon to prominent the shape of your body which has been proven is the sexiest shape of all. Besides the shape, detailed design and soft colour are all aimed at building a sophisticated feminine style for you.
This brand has a wide range of product lines, ranging from winter coat to bikini, aiming to make you a Zimmermann girl in every second and every aspect of your life.
Unlike Zimmermann’s detailed and sophisticated design, Finders Keeper’s design is always simple and neat. Finders Keepers, the label has evolved into one of the world’s most sought-after fashion labels for its effortlessly polished style.
Since its inception in 2007 by Australian Fashion Labels’ Creative Director Melanie Flintoft, the label has stuck true to its ethos of providing attainable high street designs in quality on-trend shapes and fabrics.
Therefore, the FINDERS girl is varied in her individual aesthetics, yet all stand united due to their confident and playful take on fashion.
After reading the above few brands, have you changed your attitude about Australian fashion? or you feel surprised that you’ve never even thought about there are so many cool brands in Australia? or you already know about this, feel happy/sad that others know about your fashion secret? Either way, the adventure of exploring fashion in Australia goes on today, and there are 5 more brands I’d like to share with you.
Noticing a gap in the market for price pointed, high-end occasion wear, Australian Fashion Labels Creative Director Melanie Flintoft launched Keepsake The Label, enlisting the help of Head Designer Carmen Dugan.
Since its inception, the brand has developed from alternative party wear into luxury, sophisticated occasion wear. Producing eleven collections annually, Keepsake continues to celebrate strength and femininity through fashion.
I like the bold design and the choose of fabric, which is very modern and elegant. And the most impressive thing is this brand can combine evening dress and the daily wear together nicely.
THE FIFTH LABEL
The concept for The Fifth Label came when Australian Fashion Labels Creative Director Melanie Flintoft discovered a growing demand for price-pointed daily essentials that still maintained design integrity and reliable quality.
Compared with other brands in these two articles, The Fifth Label is more like a street fashion brand. Instead of detailed, sophisticated and Feminized design, this brand showed more energy, more fearless attitude.
And the price is cheaper than other brands as well.
Australian fashion designer Alice McCall who started her career in London as a stylist founded this brand in 2004 and attended the Australian fashion week in the same year.
Like most of the brands I introduced, Alice McCall likes to use lace, chiffon and ruffles to create a romance looking. However, Alice McCall can stand out not only by the design but also by the romance in her heart. She gives each and every dress a romantic name, such as “and then you kissed me”, “I feel it coming”.
Compared with the other brands, Alica McCall is more expensive and shouldn’t be in this article because the purpose of this article is to introduce you to the affordable Australian fashion brands, however, Alice McCall dresses are just too pretty to be missed. Now the official site still has the 50% off sales, if you can find something you like and you can wear in the sales, it is still a good deal.
