Pantone announced this years’ colour is UltraViolet. According to their vice president Laurie Pressman “The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today”(Pantone).
We are living in a world that is fast moving, anything can happen. Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come. This blue-based purple takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.
We can see that designers such asGuy Laroche, Roberto Cavalli, and Genny are already using this trend in their Fall/Winter 2018/19 runway shows. I actually like this colour, it is mysterious and elegant, however, I’m not sure I can wear it because the colour itself can draw a lot of attention, it will become the dress that is wearing me not I’m wearing the dress.
Designers may notice the hardness for us to wear this colour, many of them choose to use the lighter Lavender instead. Such a relief J This lavender set of pictures are easier on the eyes and hearts.
Now let’s talk about how to match this colour. Firstly, you can choose to go with a total look. This is the easiest to do and may give you the extra point if you choose the right material to go with it.
The ethereal kind of material can give you a goddess look. See this Giambattista Valli Haute Couture and Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s red-carpet look, you will agree with me.
Vera Wang Women’s Sleeveless Chiffon Halter Gown
If you choose the woollen or more stiff material, it will make you look like a powerful businesswoman.
Badgley Mischka Women’s Oversized Wool Cocoon Coat
If you think the total look might be a little boring, then try using different lavender shads to create more layers.
Even though we say that black, white, gold, silver and grey can match with any colour, however, I think using white to match the lavender might be the best idea. White can lighten the purple-y looking and give you a fresh looking.
PUMA Women’s Suede Mono Satin Platform
Silver and purple give you a high-technology, futurist style of looking.
HEIMO Women’s Sequins Keyhole Back Evening Ball Gown
+ light Pink-y
Lavender is a light pink-y colour itself, so it goes well with any colour with a light and pink-y filter. The look will be soft and feminine.
Parker Women’s Parker Black Liza Dress
If the above looks are not spicy enough for you, then try red. This action may require strong matching skills, if you are not so confident with it, start with a small size of red.
Shoshanna Women’s Dyer Dress
Not sure about the colour yet? Why not starting with a small size of this colour? Like a handbag. It goes well with adjacent colour, but if you are not sure about it just do like Matilde Gioli, use the light colour to get your lavender handbag pop out.
